Curious about alternative healthcare? Start here.

Your first consultation is designed to understand your health, your goals and whether evidence-informed alternative healthcare may be appropriate for your individual circumstances.

It's supportive, judgement-free and personalised. You don't need any prior knowledge or experience before your appointment. Your doctor will guide the conversation, talk you through the evidence, potential benefits, risks and alternatives, and answer your questions along the way, so you can make an informed decision about your care.

A prescription is not guaranteed. Every recommendation is based on your individual circumstances.

Before your consultation

A little preparation can help you make the most of your time with your doctor.

STEP 01

Complete your Health History Form

Once you've booked, you'll be asked to complete a Health History Form through your Patient Portal. This gives your doctor time to review your health background, current symptoms and previous treatments before you meet.

STEP O2

Upload any helpful documents

If you have them, you can upload these securely through your Patient Portal:
Relevant medical letters, test results or scans
A list of your current medications and doses, including supplements
A discharge letter from your previous clinic, if you're switching to Polln
Don't have everything ready? That's okay. Our Care Team can help you work out what's useful.

STEP 03

Prepare what you'd like to discuss

Before your appointment, it may help to think about:
When your health concern began and how it has changed over time
How it affects your day-to-day life
Treatments you've tried, what helped, what didn't and any side effects
Any work, driving or lifestyle considerations you'd like to discuss
What you're hoping to achieve from your care
You're welcome to make a few notes and have them with you during your consultation.

STEP 04

Log into your portal 10 minutes early

Your consultation takes place by video through your Polln Patient Portal. Log in 10 minutes early, check your camera and microphone, and select "Allow" when prompted. Keep your phone nearby. If there are any technical issues, your doctor may call you from a private or withheld number.

During your consultation

Your initial 30-minute consultation is time to have an open conversation, ask questions and better understand your options.

STEP 01

Getting to know you

Your doctor will confirm a few details, then take the time to learn about your health and symptoms, review your treatment history and current medications, and understand what you're hoping to achieve.

STEP 02

Explore your options

Your doctor will discuss whether evidence-informed alternative healthcare may be appropriate for you, including the evidence, potential benefits, risks, side effects and alternatives. Ask as many questions as you like. There's no pressure to decide on the spot.

STEP 03

If treatment is appropriate

Your doctor will explain their recommendations and work with you to develop a personalised treatment plan that's tailored to your individual circumstances. If they feel further tests, an in-person assessment or care from another provider would help, they'll explain why and how to arrange it.

Your doctor's recommendations are guided by your health needs, not a particular product or brand. No brand incentives. No mark-ups.

HOW TO PREPARE

Questions your doctor may ask

To get the most out of your consult it can help to prepare for what your Doctor may ask. There are no right or wrong answers. These questions simply help your doctor understand your health and recommend care that's right for you.

You can also share with your doctor any other considerations for your care, like driving, travelling or investigating affordable options.

What health concerns would you like to talk about?

When did your symptoms start, and how have they changed over time?

What treatments have you tried, and how did they work for you?

What medications and supplements are you currently taking?

Do you have any other medical conditions or allergies?

Are you pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy?

What are you hoping to achieve from your care?

Questions people ask before booking

Do I need a GP referral?

No, you don’t need a GP referral to get started with Polln. If you have relevant medical records, test results or a letter from your GP, you can upload them through your patient portal before your consultation.
If needed, your Polln doctor may also contact your regular GP or specialist, with your consent, to gather additional information and help coordinate your care.

Will my regular GP be involved?

Polln can work alongside your regular GP or specialist to support continuity of care. With your consent, your Polln doctor may contact them for additional information or share relevant updates to help coordinate your care. If this is needed, your doctor will discuss it with you during your consultation.

Will I definitely recieve a prescription?

Not necessarily. Your consultation is an opportunity for your doctor to assess your health and discuss whether prescription natural therapies may be appropriate for you. Any recommendations will be based on your individual circumstances.

‍

Can I speak with someone before booking?

Absolutely. A free 15-minute call with our nursing team gives you the chance to ask questions, understand how Polln works and time to decide whether it's the right next step for you. No pressure. No obligation. You can also call our Care Team on 1300 176 556.

‍

What happens after my first consultation?

If your doctor prescribes medication, you can manage orders, request repeats and track deliveries through your patient portal. You can also book follow-up appointments and contact our nursing and care team if you need support between visits.

What if I can’t use video?

No problem at all! We can arrange a phone consultation instead. Simply call our care team on 1300 176 556 before your appointment and let them know your preference. They'll be happy to help.

Can I bring a support person?

Of course. Just let your doctor know at the start of your consultation, and they'll check you're comfortable discussing your health with that person present.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel?

We understand plans can change. You can reschedule at no extra cost through your Patient Portal up to 24 hours before your appointment. If your consultation is less than 24 hours away, please call our Care Team on 1300 176 556 as soon as possible.

Consultations are non-refundable, and late cancellations or missed appointments fall under our 24-hour cancellation policy, which may mean a new booking and consultation fee.

What if I need a physical examination or tests?

If your doctor feels an examination or tests would help, they'll explain why and talk you through how to arrange them. This may be with your regular GP, a specialist or another healthcare provider.

I'm switching from another clinic. What do I need?

You'll need a discharge letter from your previous clinic. This confirms your care there has ended and helps your Polln doctor coordinate your care safely. Upload it through your Patient Portal or email it to hello@polln.com. If you need help requesting one, our Care Team is happy to help.

What if treatment isn't right for me?

We understand this may not be the outcome you were hoping for. Your doctor will explain their reasoning and help you understand other options for your care. Your consultation fee covers your doctor's assessment and advice, whether or not treatment is recommended.
